Microsoft Windows Vista 5840

After releasing an internal release last week 5808, Microsoft has jumped ahead to release pre-RTM ( 5840.16384.061018) to be exact. A big issue of course are drivers. I spoke to a couple of un-named sources high in the hardware R&D world and they have said the same thing, they have been told by Microsoft to not provide the Microsoft signed drivers for Vista, under severe penalties until they are told to do so. This is because they have had some real hardware detection problems (worse than XP) and this is believed to be causing a real concern at HQ.

I was drawn by one manufacturer that in 5808 known as RC2+ (and even RC2) there is a large shortage of printer drivers for instance.  Many testers have had problems with what is viewed as EEH (easy extra hardware), i.e. non mission critical, modems, printers, sound cards, software etc.  This was solved with critical hardware (video drivers, etc).

Bottom Line

So what is the bottom line? Well,  5840 offers some new icons, sounds, and more importantly hardware detection. Redmond is still considering an “enhancement” patch (with more sounds, drivers etc) to launch on day 1 with vista, unless these issues can get sorted in time  Watch this space 5840 pictures to follow.

Google the words below for the public release when it is out later this week.

After having my legit Windows XP Pro come up with an WGA nag screen, only to be told by Microsoft the only way to repair this was to reinstall XP pro (no thanks). I decided to hack it instead only to find MS actually has the fix themselves (DOH!). Just be careful not to reinstall the nag screen yourself afterwords, and I suggest method 1 only.

On a recent diggnation episode Alex mentioned he had trouble finding anything he wanted via Bit Torrent (UFC fights for example etc.) or any fast sites. On this one occasion I will give away 3 things many know (many others do not) You will need nothing else ever again. 1) Bit Che- Bit Torrent Search Program (http://convivea.com/product.php?id=2) – Not a web site but a desk based program. This small little miracle program, allows you to put in anything you want, UFC for example, and up comes loads of your selections from as many BT sites you want, select by name, seeders etc. Don’t forget to donate if you like it as much as I do.  2) uknova.com- The fastest download site there is, for your UK-centric downloads, is there a faster site I don’t believe it. 3) Asureus – Say now more the best feature is setting the times you download, upload, leech and seed. Someone tell Alex.

Make a WordPress Theme In Minutes

Posted: October 4, 2006 in Misc Tech

A good friend of mine Joe Kaplan just launched ThemesPress.com which is a site to turn any standard HTML template or design into a fully functional WordPress Theme in minutes.

The best part, it
s all automatic, so people with little to no PHP or HTML skills can make a WordPress theme from any design they have or purchased from a design site.
